Mother Of Netflix Star Killed Herself 4 Months After Her Daughter's Suicide

Daisy Coleman took her own life while on a FaceTime call with her boyfriend, her Mother followed her four months later.

Fans of Netflix documentaries will remember Daisy Coleman. She was one of the two girls featured in the film Audrie & Daisy. The series followed the stories of two American high school students who were victims of sexual assaults and cyberbullying.

The death of Daisy Coleman was announced by her mother today, August 5, 2020. It was suicide. Speaking with TMZ, Daisy's mother, Melinda said that her daughter took her own life. Her body was discovered after Melinda called the police to do a welfare check. 23-year-old Daisy took her own life while on a FaceTime call with her boyfriend.

In a Facebook post she wrote: "My daughter Catherine Daisy Coleman committed suicide tonight. If you saw crazy / messages and posts it was because I called the police to check on her. She was my best friend and amazing daughter. I think she had to make make it seem like I could live without her. I can’t. I wish I could have taken the pain from her! She never recovered from what those boys did to her and it’s just not fair. My baby girl is gone."

Audrie & Daisy is an urgent real-life drama that examines the ripple effects on families, friends, schools, and communities when two underage young women find that sexual assault crimes against them have been caught on camera.

Though filmed in 2016, the message of the film is still poignant today. Daisy was only 14-years-old when she was allegedly raped at a house party. Nobody has been held responsible for the incident. Melinda added: "She never recovered from what those boys did to her and it’s just not fair. My baby girl is gone." At the time of her death, Daisy Coleman had reportedly been fearful of an alleged stalker who was relentlessly harassing her. Friends told People magazine they believed the unidentified stalker directly contributed to her suicide.

“She would rather kill herself than let this man kill her,” one friend told the magazine.

Now, four months following the suicide of her daughter, Melinda Coleman has allegedly killed herself as well.

A posting on the Instagram page of SafeBAE, the sexual assault prevention organization founded by Daisy, announced the 58-year-old mother's death.

In the hours before the incident, Melinda made a poignant post on Facebook that reads " There aren’t enough I love yous I could have said when I was holding your cold, broken , dead body. I held you like a baby anyway, my baby. The baby I held when you first came into this world. It has always been my greatest honor and joy to be your mother and best friend. Mama bear!"

Daisy's father died in a car accident when she was a child, and her brother, Tristan, died in a car accident in Kansas in 2018, the Kansas City Star reported.
"The bottomless grief of losing her husband, Tristan, and Daisy was more than she could face most days," the Instagram posts says.

The SafeBAE post continues to say that "Melinda was a gifted veterinarian, devoted mother and wife, and talented bodybuilder" who ”loved and believed in her children."
The post concludes: "It is no accident that she created some of the most gifted, passionate, and resilient children. Our hearts are forever with Logan and Charlie," Melinda's surviving sons.
