Two-Legged Chihuahua Named Champ Saves Owner’s Life by Sensing Heart Attack Before It Happened
A two-legged Chihuahua named Champ is being hailed as a hero after saving his owner’s life in Locust Grove, Georgia.
Owner Andrew Kuzyk, 63, was relaxing at home when Champ suddenly jumped onto his chest and began whining — behavior he had never shown before. Moments later, Andrew began feeling chest pains. His wife, Pamela, immediately called 911.
Doctors at an Atlanta hospital discovered Andrew was suffering from a “widowmaker” heart attack, caused by a severely blocked artery. Surgeons said his heart stopped twice during the operation, but he survived — thanks to Champ’s timely warning.
Champ, who was born without front legs, has shown an incredible instinct for detecting health issues. Before Andrew’s brain cancer diagnosis, the dog had displayed the same unusual behavior.
Experts say dogs can sometimes detect medical emergencies through scent or subtle body changes. Though untrained, Champ appears to be a natural medical alert dog.
Today, Andrew is recovering and credits Champ — along with his faith and wife — for saving his life. The couple has turned their home into a sanctuary for rescued Chihuahuas, many with special needs.
“Without Champ, I wouldn’t be here,” Andrew said. “He’s truly my miracle dog.”
