Sure, peace on Earth may still be some ways off — but for a few brief moments, at least, this pup and her unlikely new pal gave the world a priceless peek at perfect harmony.
The other week, Rylee Boland and her French bulldog, Mochi, were hanging out at home in California when a colorful little stranger decided to drop by for a visit. It was a monarch butterfly, who proceeded to land on their backyard wall to warm his wings in the sun.
Immediately, Mochi ran over to greet him.
Though Mochi is typically a rambunctious pup, she seemed to understand the delicate insect would prefer a gentler sort of welcome.
“She was so sweet and did not want to hurt it,” Boland told The Dodo. “She is very well-behaved and has the kindest heart.”
In return, the butterfly lingered well within sniffing distance — sensing, perhaps, that the curious little canine indeed meant him no harm.
“Both the butterfly and Mochi were so calm I was able to snap a bunch of pictures,” Boland said.
This adorable interaction lasted for about 15 minutes, after which the butterfly took flight. He even landed briefly on Boland’s hand before continuing on his way.
It was a shared sense of kindness and trust that made the sweet scene possible that day — qualities in Mochi the world could always use more of.
Boland, for one, didn’t fail to see the beauty in the time Mochi spent with the butterfly — a time during which the world, for a moment, seemed just about perfect.
“It was an amazing experience,” she said.
