Some people are calling it child abuse.
Raising teenagers is no easy task.
At some point or another, they are going to do something against your wishes or that challenges your views and to think differently.
It’s the parent’s job to react to the situation in a healthy way that reinforces boundaries and leaves you looking like a good role model.
That’s pretty much the opposite of what happened to Christin Johnson’s teenage daughter Kelsey after she had highlights put in her hair for her birthday.
Christin says she was absolutely heartbroken when she found that her daughter’s father allegedly cut all of her daughter’s hair off as punishment for getting highlights.
Christin treated her daughter to a trip to the salon as a birthday gift. When her daughter came home after spending the weekend with her father, she found her daughter extremely distraught because her father and stepmother allegedly gave her a very short haircut.
Christin was so upset that she posted the photos on Facebook.
“This is what my daughter looked like Sunday when I took her home and the other two pics is what happened today before she was brought to me… all over me having highlights put in her hair for her birthday!”
Ohio’s Haskins Police Department and Wood County Children’s Services are investigating a potential child abuse complaint.
Charges have not been filed.
Christin believes the haircut was performed as a punishment by Kelsey’s father and stepmother.
As a result, the father and stepmom and have been placed on leave from duty as volunteers for the Middleton Township Fire Department. They’ve been department members for the last two years and will remain on leave pending the outcome of the investigations.
Middleton Township Fire Chief Steve Asmus says he’s never received a complaint regarding their work.
Haskins Police Chief Colby Carroll noted:
“I’ve been doing this since ’92 and I’ve never had a case I would say that’s like this.”
“Mom was upset with how her child was being cared for – for lack of better terms.”
Christin’s post quickly went viral.
Comments read:
“This post broke my heart. Some parents have no idea what kind of impact that can have on a young lady. I am so sorry.”
“So sad a parent could do something so hurtful to their child. Clearly, the dad has severe issues and needs mental help ASAP.”
“Still a gorgeous girl, but that is child abuse! I’d report that!”
Thankfully, Kelsey is starting to feel like herself again.
The employees at Lady Jane’s hooked her up with what appears to be a beautiful brown and blonde wig. Christin posted those photos on Facebook as well.
“I’d like to thank the ladies at Lady Jane’s on Glendale in Toledo, OH for making my baby feel more like herself! Especially Haylee Ann for taking her to pick out her new hair,” she wrote. “She got her smile back because of you ladies and your selfless acts of kindness! We truly appreciate you ladies so much! Haylee, you are the best Godmother to Kelsey and the bond you two share is incredible, we love you so much!”
