Hero mom suffers severe burns after going back and forth into burning home to save her kids

We’d often say we’d ‘jump in front of a bullet’ or ‘run into a fire’ for someone we love.

But when the time comes, would we do it? Yes, we get it. We say these things to assure them that we got their backs no matter what, and that’s how much our love for them would go. However, these are just all figures of speech.

But what if we tell you that one mother took that to heart? Literally.

There’s nothing that Mikala Vish would do for her children. A single mom of four, she’s willing to protect her children no matter the cost. That was put to the test when their family home caught on fire.

It was last October 26 at 1 AM when the incident happened.

The fire broke out, almost trapping the entire family inside. Mikala, however, refused to get defeated by it. She got her children (ages 12, 5, 4, and 9 months) out of the house one by one and saved that. But all that had a hefty price to pay.

Mikala suffered second and third-degree burns in about 60% of her body.

Her 6-year-old son, Torin, had burns on his arms, legs, and back as well. Both were sent to the Michigan Medicine Burn Unit located in Ann Arbor. Both Mikala and Torin underwent skin grafting.

Mikala’s mother, Susan, was horrified by the news but was not surprised by her daughter’s actions.

She said in an interview with FOX News:

“I would expect no less from her. She has always been a spitfire; she is extremely determined. It didn’t surprise me at all.”

She added that her daughter has always been a woman of faith, which made her believe Mikala and Torin will be fine.

Lieutenant Derek Klink of the Dexter Fire Department was all praises for Mikala.

He said that despite what happened, she did what any mother would do. He even said that while most people would often call firefighters heroes, there’s only one hero in this incident, Mikala. Despite the praises, Lt. Klink was shaken up with what happened.

According to his wife, Brynna Klink, the fire lieutenant went home defeated.

She said that the incident hit him, seeing that Mikala’s kids were the same age as their kids. This prompted Brynna and the Chelsea Area Fire Authority to put up a GoFundMe page for Mikala. The money can help support her kids since it’ll be a while that Mikala will be in the hospital.

The Chelsea Fire Authority also called for donations for children’s clothing.

“Mikala and Torin have been showing incredible progress. They have both been undergoing multiple grafting surgeries, and their grafts are looking good.”

She added that Mikala has a long road ahead and thanked the community for their help and support.
